Mom of tennis player Rublev: “We believe that soon we will be able to perform under our flag and anthem”
Marina Maryenko, mother of tennis player Andrei Rublev, believes that Russian athletes will soon compete in international competitions with the national flag.
“We all really hope for the best. Every person believes in a good outcome. We believe and know that soon we will be able to perform under our flag, anthem and with our fans. These difficulties will help us appreciate what we have more in the future, – Sport24 quotes Maryenko.
At the end of February, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended that the federations remove Russians and Belarusians from participating in tournaments due to the situation in Ukraine. Many federations followed the recommendations and deprived athletes from the two countries of the right to compete. Some federations allow Russians in a neutral status, tennis players can participate in tournaments without national symbols.
