Auger-Aliassime defeats Tsonga in Marseille
(Marseille) Jo-Wilfried Tsonga was dominated in two sets by young Quebecer Félix Auger-Aliassime in 2and round of the ATP 250 tournament in Marseille, Thursday.
The 21-year-old world No.9 was the strongest in the first set tiebreaker despite strong resistance from the 36-year-old Frenchman, before taking the best in the second set to win 7 -6 (3), 6-2.
Now down to 243and world rank, Tsonga, former N.5, leaves the Marseille tournament of which he is the main shareholder and will return to the courts at the Challenger de Pau (February 20-27).
Auger-Aliassime won his first trophy on the ATP Tour last week by winning the Rotterdam tournament.
The seeded N.3 met Belarusian Ilya Ivashka, 49, in the quarter-finals.and world player.
