Tsitsipas – Gaston 2-0: Qualified in the quarterfinals of the Marseille tournament
Stefanos Tsitsipas beat Hugo Gaston 2-0 (6:3, 7:6) and qualified for the quarter-finals of the Marseille tournament and meets Roman Safiulin (No. 163).
2020 Open 13 champion Stefanos Tsitsipas began his commitments with a win at this year’s edition of the 250-a-side tournament in Marseille.
Although it was difficult against 21-year-old Frenchman Hugo Gaston, the Greek champions found a way to ‘finish’ the match in straight sets and prevailed 6-3, 7-6 after an hour and 31 minutes (4) , below qualifying for the institution’s quarterfinals.
Stefanos returned to winning ways after a poor performance against Aliasim in the Rotterdam final a few days ago and meets another Frenchman, Roman Safiulin (No. 163), on Friday (17/2) as he moves into the ‘4’. The best of Marseille.
The No. 1 on the board served 13 aces, winning 49/63 points behind serve to clear the obstacle of little Gaston, No. 68 in the ATP world rankings.
Tsitsipas aimed at his opponent’s weak second serve, which forced the Frenchman to leave his comfort zone several times and risked more in the rally.
In the critical moments the world No. 4 was better, calmer and showing his quality, avoiding the possibility of a 3rd set and leaving without wasting much effort, despite Gaston being very competitive.
