In an interview with Serbia, Novak Djokovic said that despite everything he went through in Australia, he would love to be back and play at the Australian Open as he has a special connection to the country.

Novak Djokovic gave a TV interview on Serbian public television and of course referred to the Australian Open and what happened in Australia and the adventure he went through that resulted in him not participating in the tournament. Noting that he would like to play in Australia again, the Serbian tennis player also referred to the message of support he received from Medvedev and once again admitted the mistake he made when appearing in the interview with Equipe.

Djokovic initially said:

I want to come back to Australia and play Rod Laver Arena again. A lot of good things happened to me there, professionally and privately. “Apart from what happened, I feel a special connection to Australia.”

And he continued: Nothing in life is taken for granted but I thought I had a good chance at the Australian Open this year. I feel at home in the Rod Laver Arena. “I say that in relation to Nadal and all the other players. I’m not saying I would necessarily win, but I definitely had a good chance.”

Djokovic announced that he received a message of support from Medvedev after the final: “Medvedev texted me 45 minutes after the final. The content of the message is personal but I can tell you it was supportive.”

The Serb once again admitted his mistake in attending the L’Equipe interview knowing he had coronavirus: “I admit that what I did with L’Equipe was selfish. It was my fault and I’ll say it. I understand that some people won’t forgive me for that and I understand the criticism that has been voiced will.”
