Nadal is the ITF World Champion for the fifth time

The year 2022 ends with a personal award for Rafael Nadal. Corresponding award for Iga Sfiodek in the women.

Rafael Nadal has been named reigning world champion by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) for his amazing 2022.

It is only the third time that the world champion is not also world no. 1, as the 36-year-old Spaniard sits second behind compatriot and youngest-ever no.

This is the fifth year that Rafael Nadal has won the ITF World Champion award, tying Roger Federer while trailing Pete Sampras (six) and Novak Djokovic (seven).


I am very happy that he has won the ITF World Champion Award again. After winning my first award, I never thought that 14 years later I would still be playing at such a high level. It was very special to win the Australian Open for the second time and of course Roland Garrossaid Nadal, who was also crowned world champion in 2008, 2019, 2017 and 2019.

The corresponding women’s prize went to WTA no. 1, Iga Sfiodek who said: “I am grateful for the support of the team and the fans around the world. I’m already looking forward to next year“.
