Nadal on Djokovic: ‘He’s won nine Australian Opens, he can do it again’
Rafael Nadal spoke about Novak Djokovic’s upcoming return to the Australian Open, stating that the Serb is obviously one of the favorites after winning the relevant tournament 9 times.
Rafael Nadal has been asked to comment on Novak Djokovic’s imminent return to Melbourne Park ahead of the 2023 Australian Open.
In an interview he gave to the Spanish radio show “El Larguero”, the owner of 22 Grand Slam titles emphasized that Nole was one of the favorites to win the title in Melbourne. After all, he has won the trophy nine times in the past!
More specifically, the 36-year-old Spaniard said: “Of course they are among the favourites. He was nine times tournament winner.
Of course, there are many young tennis players under the age of 22 who always excel at outdoor tournaments. As for me, the situation I will find myself in before any major tournament will also determine my goals.
I can’t yet say whether I’ll be able to fight for the title this year in Australia as the defending champion. But what is certain is that I want to be competitive wherever I play.”
Nadal will start his preparations for the new season in the newly formed United Cup, while Novak Djokovic will make his debut at the ATP 250 tournament in Adelaide, competing in both singles and doubles.
