Spaniard Rafael Nadal, the world No. 5 and winner of last month’s Australian Open, his 21st Grand Slam tournament, will face American Reilly Opelka (20th) in the first round of the Acapulco Open early next week.
It will be Nadal’s first game since his triumph in Melbourne, against one of the players in the form of the moment, a finalist this Sunday at Delray Beach.
This tournament will be held in a new sports arena, capable of accommodating more than 10,000 spectators who will be able to admire five of the six best players in the world: Nadal therefore, but also the Russian Daniil Medvedev (2nd), the German Alexander Zverev (3rd), the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas (4th) and the Italian Mateo Beretini (6th).
Medvedev will play his first round against Frenchman Benoit Perr (52nd) and a rising youth clash will face No. 6 Briton Cameron Norri with Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz.
No Canadian will participate in this tournament. Félix Auger-Aliassime and Denis Shapovalov will play in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.
