Tennis begins the 2023 season with an innovation in the ATP and WTA calendar: united cupone new tournament by country featuring the best men’s and women’s rackets from each nation they work as a team in a format similar to Davis Cup or Billie Jean King Cup.
Australia accepts this competition which takes place on the ATP Cup calendar and this will award financial prizes and points for ranking.
What is the shape of the United Cup?
The United Cup consists of 18 teams representing 18 countries, distributed six groups of three teams each. The city of Brisbane hosts teams B and E. Perth in teams A and F and Sydney in teams C and D. The winners of each group will face the best from the other region of their city in the quarterfinals, for a place in the semifinals. The three winners will be joined by the best loser, taking into account the results of the three series played so far. Later, Sydney will host the semi-finals and final.
Each series will be resolved in five games, with two men’s singles crosses, two women’s singles crosses and one mixed doubles.
