Becker: “They tried to kill me in prison, I learned a hard lesson”
In a lengthy interview with Boris Becker, he opened up about his time in prison, revealing how someone tried to kill him and how he spent his time.
Interview on the TV channel “Sat 1” was granted in the days before by Boris Becker a few days after his deportation from England and his return to Germany where he will serve out the remainder of his sentence under house arrest.
We remind you that the holder of six Grand Slam titles has been sentenced to 2.5 years in prison after being found guilty of tax evasion and money laundering.
The original sentence called for him to spend the first 15 months in prison and the rest at home under house arrest.
Becker showed good behavior and after eight months it was decided to deport him from England and continue his sentence in Germany.
“Prison was good for my health. They had alcohol, but I didn’t drink at all” he first said, referring to the fact that he’d lost seven pounds in a few months.
He then revealed that another inmate had tried to kill him: “The most important thing not to do was not to look strange at another inmate. There was an inmate who tried to kill me last October. He tried to attack me and told me all the things he wanted to do to me Help Other prisoners came and helped me. The guards were late.”
Referring to what he kept to himself from his prison experience, he said: “I think I rediscovered the man in me, the man I used to be. I learned a hard lesson. A very expensive lesson and also a very painful one. Of course everything that happened taught me something important and it was worth it: that there are things that happen for a good reason
After the first three months, he was transferred to another ward. There I worked as a trainer and had the opportunity to learn mathematics, English and even Greek philosophy.”
