DELRAY BEACH, Florida – No. 1 seeded Briton Cameron Norrie won the Delray Beach ATP 250, his third touring title, defeating American Reilly Opelka 7-6 (1), 7-6 (4) in the final ( No. 2), Sunday.
Whether in the Florida humidity or in the California desert, where he won his best win to date at the Masters 1000 in Indian Wells, Norrie is comfortable on American hard surfaces.
He has struggled with Opelka, a large server in excellent condition for the past two weeks since winning the Dallas tournament last Sunday.
But the 26-year-old left-hander, 13th in the world, who reached the semifinals last year at Delray Beach, was the most consistent, like the two decisive games he won with power, after 1 hour and 51 games.
Relying on his first ball (25 aces), Opelka, 20th in the world, who has already won this tournament in 2020, was able to erase the 5 break points he conceded, without however being able to win any to please the opponent service .
With more than two weeks to defend his Indian Wells title, Norrie was confident.
