On December 29, a new team tennis tournament begins, called the United Cup, in which both men and women will play. Under the auspices of the ATP and WTA, the competitions will be held in three Australian cities: Brisbane at the Patrick Rafter Arena, Perth at the RAC Arena and Sydney at the Ken Rosewall Arena. The first match starts at 03:00 Kyiv time.
Tournament Format
The 18 teams were divided into six groups of three teams each. Each host city will play two groups. Winners geographically form playoff pairings. The three winning teams in the city finals and the losing team with the best performance will advance to the semi-finals. The semi-finals and final will be played in Sydney.
The format of the matches between the teams includes two singles matches between men, two matches between women and one mixed doubles match. There will be a men’s singles and a women’s single in each session and the mixed doubles match will be last in the queue.
Members
The 18 participating teams with 3-4 players from the women’s and men’s rounds were selected as follows:
- 6 nations qualified based on the ATP ranking of the best singles players.
- 6 nations qualified based on the WTA ranking of the best singles players.
- The other 6 nations qualified based on the combined ranking of ATP and WTA top players (where also a spot is reserved for the home team if it fails to pass the first two qualifying criteria).
