Tsitsipas: “It was the best start in the United Cup”
Stefanos Tsitsipas was completely satisfied with the start of the Greeks in the newly founded United Cup, while stressing that a point makes the difference for the thriller game against Dimitrov.
Stefanos Tsitsipas emerged victorious from the big fight in which he took part on his debut in the United Cup on Thursday (December 29) against Grigor Dimitrov, with the Greek champion speaking of an ideal start.
“It was really the best start to the United Cup, I hope people enjoyed it. What can I say;
It was a very good game from both sides, Grigor was unlucky. One point really made the difference in that match and I can say I tried really hard to win in the end.”said Tsitsipas initially and continued:
“It was very difficult to play in this heat, I’m glad the roof was closed later. We played tennis at a high level, I tried to persevere, to fight, I knew it wasn’t going to be easy.
Grigor is a very good player, he’s done great in recent years, he’s undoubtedly a player who can look competitive against the biggest names in tennis. I just found that little gap in between and took the win with my best tiebreak performance.
We’re here to enjoy the game, we have a very good team, I’m happy to share these great moments with the other guys, I’m happy that the United Cup has started and I hope it continues for many more years.”
Regarding Despina Papamichael’s previous win, he said: “She fought so hard, I’m very proud of her. He brings so much to the team and it’s very important to believe in all the players in your team. She’s a great fighter and it’s also very important to have players like that on our side.”
