Stefanos Tsitsipas (No. 4) won against David Gofan (No. 53) with 2-0 sets (6:3, 6:2) and so Greece separated 1:1 against Belgium in the United Cup. One win away from first place in the group.

Stefanos Tsitsipas, who played exceptionally at times, saw off David Gofan 6-3, 6-2 and leveled the series with Belgium (1-1) after Despina Papamichael was defeated against Alison Van Eetfunk.

Tsitsipas’ start was excellent as the Greek tennis player broke first to take a 3-1 lead, but Gofan responded immediately by reducing to 3-2 and immediately after that to 3-3, struggling to hold and a break deleted -point.

What Tsitsipas failed to do during that period, he did in Gofan’s next service game as the Greek tennis player grabbed a 2nd break (5-3) and took the balls in his hands to finish the set, which he did after winning first saved Gofan’s breakpoint.

The 2nd leg of the match started with a big hold from Tsitsipas who first erased Gofan’s double break point (15/40) and then another, leveling the score at 2-2.

In fact, Tsitsipas found a break in the Belgian’s next service game to lead 3: 2, which he “collected” a little later with another difficult hold (4: 2). From there, everything became easy for Tsitsipas, who with a fresh break finished the game at 5-2, finishing the game on serve at 1-1 in the tie, but also 5-2 in the encounters with the Belgian.

Tsitsipas’ victory brought the Greeks even closer to the top of the group and the final in Perth, as they still need a win in the total of three games on Tuesday (01/03).
