Sakellaridis 0-2 Musetti: Italy are one win away from the United Cup final
Stefanos Sakellaridis was defeated 2-0 in sets by Lorenzo Muzzetti and Italy scored a 2-0 win over Greece in the United Cup “4”.
Stefanos Sakellaridis was struggling to hold his own against world No. 23 Lorenzo Muzzetti as he suffered a 6-1, 6-1 defeat. The Italian made it 2-0 and is now a win away from United’s place in the last trophy after losing Maria Sakkari.
In a match that had a big favorite from the start and that was none other than Lorenzo Musetti, the Italian beat Stefanos Sakellaridis, who was 783 places behind in the rankings and conceded two games.
The Italian, who ended up struggling with his right shoulder, dropped just 11 points on serve despite needing excellent points early on to escape Sakellaridi’s break point (his only one of the game).
On the other hand, the 18-year-old and the ITF No. 1 struggled with the Italian’s returns, particularly on serve two, but despite that fact and even though he only won two games, he struggled like that the whole time hard he was able to become the game competitive.
After escaping the break in the 1st service game of the match, Muzzetti grabbed two breaks and won the 1st set.
In the 2nd leg of the match, Sakellaridis took a 1-0 lead in his 2nd love game in the match, but from there Mouzet won the next 6 games, earning three breaks and easily achieving the win.
That means Italy are 2-0 up after the end of day one of the semi-finals and are just one win away from qualifying for the United Cup finals.
Tomorrow it’s Stefanos Tsitsipas’ turn, who will fight Matteo Berretini with his back against the wall. Despina Papamichael will next take the field and take on 24-year-old and world No. 54 Lucia Bronzetti as the series of semi-finals concludes with mixed doubles.
