Tsitsipas: “I needed the Greeks in the stands, together we won”
Stefanos Tsitsipas dedicated his magnificent win over Matteo Berretini to the Greeks, who were in the stands and supported him throughout the game, stressing that they helped him achieve the upset.
Stefanos Tsitsipas fought to the end and surprised Matteo Berettini with a 2-1 win in a set. He kept Greece ‘alive’ in the battle to qualify for the United Cup final by drawing 2-1 against Italy.
After the end of the big game, the Greek tennis player dedicated the victory to the crowd and the Greeks who were standing in the stands and supporting him.
“I needed the Greeks in the stands, I needed my team. Guys, great atmosphere. Congratulations, we won this game together.
I had to return some balls to his serve, somehow I took my chances. During the game you have to accept some things and focus on them. I had to break his serve.
I almost had a heart attack yesterday watching Maria. Nowadays I realize how difficult it is when you watch a game. Unfortunately Maria didn’t make it, but it was a fun game and I’m very happy with the way she fought.”
