The Spaniard had won his first Australian Open more than a decade earlier in 2009. when he defeated Federer in the final 7–5, 3–6, 7–6(3), 3–6, 6–2. It was the first major who won on an asphalt surface and his first GS final against the Swiss also on this type of surface.
Outside Roland Garros (14), the Australian Open is the Grand Slam that Nadal has played more finals, with six in total. It’s also where you have it worst win rate (33%) in terms of finals compared to the other Grand Slams: the French Open (100%), Wimbledon (40%) and US Open (80%).
