Australian Open: Papamikhail and Grammatikopoulou enter clash of qualifiers
Despina Papamichail and Valentini Grammatikopoulou battled it out in the early hours of Tuesday to qualify for the Australian Open main draw.
A week separates us from the start of the Australian Open main draw with the presence of Stefanos Tsitsipas and Maria Sakkari as a matter of course.
The action at Melbourne Park got underway on Monday (01/09) with the first games in the men’s and women’s qualifying bodies, while Despina Papamichail and Valentini Grammatikopoulou competed for main body qualification on Tuesday.
The two Greek tennis players prepared as best they could by taking part in the United Cup, where they helped Greece reach the semi-finals of the newly formed competition last week.

At around 05:00 on Tuesday morning on Court 12, Despina Papamihail (No. 158) meets No. 10 in the table and No. 112 in the world, Reka Luka Jani of Hungary.
Of the early games in women’s qualifiers, Ginny Bouchard’s 3-6, 1-6, 6-4 loss to Ashlyn Krueger stood out.
