Sakkari is up against Yue Wan from China in the first round of the Australian Open
Maria Sakkari got to know her opponents at the Australian Open. In the early morning draw on Thursday (January 12) she will meet China’s Yue Wan in the first round of the tournament. The women’s draw in detail.
Maria Sakkari will begin her duties at this year’s Australian Open against Chinese and world No. 116 Yue Yuan after the draw took place in Melbourne on Thursday morning (1/12).
The Greek tennis player has been dragged to the top of the table, along with Iga Sfiodek, Paula Bandosa, Jessica Pegula, Corey Goff, Madison Keys and last year’s finalist Daniel Collins.
Should Sakkari clear Yuan’s hurdle, she will compete in Round 2 with either Slovakia’s (world No. 238) Kristina Kutsova or a player from the qualifiers.
The Swiss Gilles Teichmann is expected as a possible opponent in the 3rd round, while the Greek tennis player, if he qualifies for the “16” phase, will theoretically and based on the ranking meet the American Madison Keys.
In the quarterfinals it’s quite difficult as logically she will face the American and one of the favorites of the tournament, Jessica Pegula, while in the semifinals the biggest favorite against Sakkari is world No. 1. 1 Iga Sfiodek.

The Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia is expected as a possible opponent for Tunisia in the 4th round. Quarterfinalists are both Arina Sabalenka and Belinda Bencic, while the big favorite for the semifinals is US Open semifinalist Caroline Garcia.
