(Auckland) World No. 3 Casper Ruud was ousted 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(3) by Laslo Djere in the second round of the ASB Classic on Wednesday.

The tournament favorite, the Norwegian, missed just four serves with his first serve in the first set, and he was constantly the aggressor in his duel against Djere. The tide turned in the second set, however, when Ruud hit just three of his first eight in the first two games. The Serb then quickly forged a 3-1 lead.

Djere took the opportunity to establish his serve, making 16 aces in total in the second and third sets – nine only in the last.

The game was moved indoors due to rain.

On the other hand, the second seed, Cameron Norrie, continued despite the fact that his match dragged on for almost six hours due to the interruptions caused by Mother Nature. He beat Czech Jiri Lehecka 6-4, 6-7 (4), 6-3.

For his part, the third seed Diego Schwartzman had to withdraw from the tournament after suffering a groin injury. He had just conceded the first set of his match against American Jensen Brooksby.

Also, Marcos Giron beat JJ Wolf 6-4, 6-4, and Richard Gasquet got rid of Joao Sousa 7-6(2), 6-2.
