– Last year, Belgian Elise Mertens played in tandem with Kudermetova. Why did you decide to change your partner?

“It’s not my decision. They just have a different calendar. When you have your partner, it is easier to plan the whole calendar in general. When you play with a foreigner, you have different interests, different calendar. If you stand with a partner in different calendars, then your pairs will not match. Samsonova and Kudermetova are both in the top 20.

First of all, you must have the desire to play a couple. The rest already depends on the combination, common plans, which are much easier to build with a representative of your country.
