Sakkari: Against 17-year-old Goff for a spot in the Doha semifinals
Maria Sakkari meets 17-year-old Coco Goff in the quarter-finals of the Doha tournament, which was played in Bandosa.
Coco Goff (No. 23) had one of her best performances, beating Bandosa (No. 4) 2-0 and reaching the quarter-finals in Doha where she will meet Maria Sakkari (No. 6).
Goff started impressively by winning the first 3 games (2 breaks) with Bandosa recapturing one of the two and reducing it to 3-1. In addition, however, the Spaniard could not keep up with Goff’s rhythm, who caused another break to end the set 5: 2 on her own serve.
The 2nd leg started with a difficult serve for Bandosa (1-0) who remained competitive until the 3rd game where they led 2-1. However, the continuation belonged to Goff, who achieved a great win with 5 of the next 6 games, but also qualified for the quarterfinals.
Sakkari and Goff faced each other three more times and the Greek has two wins against one of the Americans.
