“I tried to abstract.” Ukrainian commented on the flag of the Russian Federation during his match

Ukrainian tennis player Katerina Beindl He commented on the behavior of the fans of Kamilla Rakhimova, who was hoisting the Russian flag, in the 1/64th final match of the Australian Open 2023:

“I was very surprised. It’s a very strange story. I don’t know if these guys were Russian because I didn’t hear them speak. They didn’t look Russian to me visually. It seemed like only one was wearing a “Russian” shirt, while the others were foreigners.

In general, I tried to isolate them as much as possible. I saw them hanging the Russian flag. I heard they support Rakhimova. I have not heard any sentence about Russia. But they clearly wanted to show something. In general, I tried not to listen to them, not even to look in that corner.

I just tried to ignore this provocation, not to engage in conflict, because for me the priority was to beat my opponent in the game. Of course, emotions arise not only from the game, but also from the situation itself. Therefore, I did everything to stay “in the cocoon” so as not to wind up.
