The Australian Tennis Federation issued a ban on Russian and Belarusian flags at the matches of the Australian Open, which started this week in Melbourne.

– The flags of Russia and Belarus are banned at the Australian Open. Our original policy was that fans could bring them in, but they couldn’t use them to riot. Yesterday we had an incident when a flag was hung on the court. The ban is effective immediately, Tennis Australia said in a statement.

According to ABS-CBN, Russian flags were spotted during the first round match between Ukrainian Ekaterina Beindl and Russia’s Kamilla Rakhimova. As a result, security and the police were called to the stands. At the same time, the Melbourne Age edition noted that Russian fans spoke negatively about Beindl.
