Belarusian Arina Sabolenko called the decision of the organizers of the Australian Open to ban Russian and Belarusian flags from the stands politicized.
The Australian Tennis Federation (Tennis Australia) on Tuesday announced a ban on the flags of the Russian Federation and Belarus at the tournament in Melbourne.
– As I said, tennis and sports in general have nothing to do with politics. But if it made it easier for everyone, then everything is in order.
I can’t control it. What can I say? They decided so – so there are no flags. Okay, said the tennis player at a press conference.
The Australian Open will end on January 29th. Russian and Belarusian tennis players compete under a neutral flag at the tournament.
