Three-time Grand Slam doubles champion Yelena Vesnina considers it strange to ban Russian and Belarusian flags at the Australian Open.
As noted, Russian flags were seen during the first round match between Ukrainian Ekaterina Beindl and Russian Kamilla Rakhimova, as well as during the match between Daniil Medvedev and American Marcos Giron.
– Strange decision to ban bringing flags. Why can’t a person bring the flag of his country to the podium? I think that a difficult time is passing for our and Belarusian tennis players now. I think they are already setting up, no matter what. I know that there are our fans, that they are supported. It doesn’t matter what country you are from, they still support you and always cheer for you. I hope it doesn’t affect it in any way. Our guys and girls are confident and motivated for this Grand Slam tournament,” Vesnina told the “Championship”.
