Australian Open 2023. 1/32 final
Kathy McNally (USA) – Katerina Beindl (Ukraine) – 1:6, 6:7 (4:7)
The first set ended in defeat. Bindl took a break in game two. The party was completely under the dictatorship of the Ukrainians. In the sixth game, he interrupted the American player’s serve once again and went to serve for the set, which he had successfully overcome.
The second set could have ended quickly enough, but the stubborn American wouldn’t give up. At 2-2, Bindl took the game on Cathy’s serve and took the lead with a timeout. However, starting from the fifth game, the tennis players took a break twice and the score was 4:4. Here, McNally did not let Bindle take his game and made the score in favor of 5:4. However, Katerina did not give up on her serve and struggled to stay in the second set. The next two games were no surprises – the tennis players confidently took their serve and turned the game into a tie-break, but in Game 11, McNally Bindl had a breaking point on the serve.
The tie-break of the second set went to Katerina. The Ukrainian confidently beat the American with a score of 7:4 and gave up his serve once.
Note that for 28-year-old Katerina, this will be the first third round, not just in AO, but in Grand Slam tournaments in general. Bindl started his professional career in 2009 and had never been in the last 16 in any sport before.
In the next round of the tournament, Katerina will face the winner of the match, Anna Bondar – Alena Ostapenko.
