Veronika Kudermetova stopped fighting at the Australian Open in singles.
The Russian tennis player, who received the ninth seed, sensationally lost to the American Katie Volynets, who occupies 113th place in the world ranking.
The match lasted 2 hours and 10 minutes and ended in three games.
Ekaterina Alexandrova advanced to the third round, beating American Taylor Townsend in three games.
To win, the Russian woman needed to spend two hours on the court. Alexandrova has four filings right through and five games won at the reception.
