Emma Radukanu and Cory Goff overcame the obstacles of Korpacs and Siniakova to seal their Australian Open second round date.

Two of women’s tennis’ greatest talents will face off in the second round of the Australian Open after winning straight sets in the premiere on Monday.

US Open 2021 winner Emma Raducanu and Serena Williams’ replacement Corey Gough will cross racquets in the most important 2nd round match in the Melbourne Round of 64.

Radoukanou, a former top 10 and current world No. 75, needed 85 minutes at the 1573 Arena to ride him to victory 6-3, 6-2 prevailed against the German Tamara Korpatz and the 18-year-old Cory Goff at the same time 6-1, 6-4 by Katerina Siniakova at Rod Laver Arena.

“Of course he will feel more pressure than me. Especially as a Brit who has won another Grand Slam after such a long time. I was younger when I got the attention but now it’s easier to deal with when I’m older will,” said Goff before the big duel with Radukanou on Wednesday.

In other results on the women’s day one, two-time tournament champion and former world No. 1 Victoria Azarenka grabbed a hard-fought victory 6-4, 7-6(3) on 2020 Melbourne champion Sofia Kenin.

Bianca Andreescu also secured the ticket for the second round with a great victory 6-2, 6-4 at No. 25 by the board, Mari Buzkova, and at “64” meets Spanish qualifier Christina Buksa.

Former French Open winner Jelena Ostapenko also qualified 6-4, 6-2 over Dayana Jastremska, while No. 3 on the board, Jessica Pegula, had an easy time against Jacqueline Christian 6-0, 6-1.
