Petrova explained the early departure of the Russians from the Australian Open
The famous Russian tennis player Nadezhda Petrova considers the departure of Daria Kasatkina and other Russians from the Australian Open a coincidence.
Of the 14 representatives of Russia who started the fight in the tournament, only two athletes remained by the third round – Ekaterina Alexandrova and Varvara Gracheva.
– All of them have been in Australia for a long time, played several tournaments. And in past years at the Australian Open, the girls showed good results. It is not for me to judge what went wrong: everyone should have had a good preparation for the season. Perhaps that was the way things were. Maybe you need to play a little, but not in Australia – it’s the beginning of the season. We need to return to training, work and prepare for the next series – in Dubai, in Qatar – and tune in to win. There are also well started seasons, it happens that you lose in the first round. You should not hang your nose, you need to move on,” Petrova told Gazeta.Ru.

Four Ukrainian tennis players were included in the doubles entry list Australian Open 2025.
Ukrainian women will play in the doubles tournament on the courts of Melbourne: Marta Kostyuk, Dayana Yastremskaya, Lyudmila Kichenok and Nadezhda Kichenok. Unfortunately, there will be no all-Ukrainian tandem in Australia.
Kostyuk will perform alongside Elena-Gabriela Ruse at the Aus Open, and Yastremskaya will play alongside Alisha Parks.
Lyudmila and Nadezhda will not play together at AO-2026, although they will start the season with the same duet in the Brisbane 500 meters. It was announced that Lyudmila will be with Katie Volynets, and Nadezhda will be with Makoto Ninomiya.
Australian Open 2026 will take place from January 12 to February 1. Elina Svitolina, Marta Kostyuk, Dayana Yastremskaya and Alexandra Oleynikova will represent Ukraine in singles. Yulia Starodubtseva, Angelina Kalinina, Daria Snigur and Vitaly Sachko will perform in the eliminations.
