Due to the heat, games on all outdoor courts have been suspended
Action on the Australian Open outdoor courts was halted before 8am due to high temperatures in Melbourne.
High temperatures in Melbourne continue to plague players as organizers cancel outdoor games with the Extreme Heat Policy introduced in 1998 but first implemented in 2019.
These regulations use a scale of 1 to 5, which takes into account the normal differences between adults, wheelchair users and junior athletes, while also taking into account the four climatic factors (air temperature, radiant heat, humidity and wind speed) that affect the player’s ability to remove heat from their derive body.
At this time, the temperature is 36 degrees Celsius, with the action on the outdoor courts not starting until 08:00.
