Great victory. Kalinina beat Kvitova at Australian Open

Ukrainian tennis player Angelina Kalinina (#39 WTA) got another win at the Australian Open.

In the second round, the Ukrainian defeated Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic (#15 WTA).

Australian Open. second round
Angelina Kalinina (Ukraine) – Petra Kvitova (Czech Republic) – 7:5, 6:4

Kalinina, who started the match well, had a breaking point in the first match, which did not happen. The Ukrainian player had to work hard on his feet, thanks to the high speed of moving on the field, he was able to compensate for the advantages of his opponent in the game and technical aspects. Kvitova looked good, but the Ukrainian often extended her jokes, imposing her game on her. It was a long match, the result was not expected immediately.

One of the most important games in the first set was the sixth set, in which the Ukrainian player managed to regain two Czech breakpoints. It was Angelina who took the initiative after that, transformed a hidden set point and went to serve the game in the tenth game. Already breathing heavily, Kvitova still managed to parry the first blow and was ready to take the sixth point first. The 11th match on his field lasted more than 15 minutes and significantly affected the fate of the entire match. The check held for a long time, but non-essential errors began to appear more and more often. As a result, Kalinina realized her fifth breaking point. From the second time it turned out that it is better to resort to a set, the last with ace was especially pleasing.

In the second match, the advantage of the Ukrainian was already more pronounced. He had almost no problems on his serve, and Kvitova played breakouts multiple times. For a long time she managed to do this, but with a score of 4:4 Kalinina scored eight points in a row, making the Ukrainian fans incredibly happy.

The Ukrainian played his 16th match against representatives of the top 20 and won the fifth match, this is Kalinina’s highest-scoring victory in the major leagues. Angelina also reached the third round of the Grand Slam tournament for the first time in her career.

In the third round, Kalinina will play against Barbora Kreychikova (WTA #23) or Clara Burel (WTA #130).
