Kyrgios: His shocking confession about depression and suicidal thoughts
Nick Kyrgios made a soul vault over social media, referencing the time he was depressed and thinking about ending his life.
Without a doubt, Nick Kyrgios is one of those athletes who are keeping the tennis world busy with what they do at both a competitive and non-competitive level.
This time, the Greek-Australian chose his favorite social media to open his heart to those who follow him. Kyrgios revealed he struggled with depression three years ago while also having suicidal thoughts.
Read what he said in his post: “That was me 3 years ago at the Australian Open. Most would have thought I was mentally fine and enjoying my life, but it was one of my darkest times. If you look closely at my right hand you can see the wounds I inflicted on myself.
I was suicidal, literally having a hard time getting out of bed, let alone playing in front of millions of people. I was alone, I was depressed, I was negative, I used alcohol, I used drugs, and I drove my friends and family away. I felt like there was no one to talk to and no one to trust. This was the result of not opening up, rejecting the support of loved ones and only slowly pushing myself to be more positive.
I know that everyday life can seem exhausting, sometimes impossible. I understand that the thought of being open can make you feel weak or anxious. But everything is fine, you are not alone. I’ve had those moments when it seems to you that a positive outcome will never happen. Please don’t feel alone. If you feel like you have no one to talk to, talk to me, I’m here. I’m proud that I’ve changed and I’ve changed my views on everything, I don’t take it for granted. I want you to be able to reach your full potential and smile. This life is beautiful.”
