Khachanov should reach the quarterfinals of the Australian Open, says Vesnina
Olympic tennis champion Elena Vesnina was pleased with the performance of Russian Karen Khachanov at the Australian Open.
The Russian defeated American Francis Tiafoe in the third round with a score of 6:3, 6:4, 3:6, 7(11): 6.
“I am very happy that Karen defeated Tiafoe. I had confidence in him in this match. He is now stronger and proved it: he pulled out the hardest tie-break in the fourth set, when he was losing 1:6. It was very important not to give the fourth set to Tiaf, because anything could happen in the fifth. Khachanov well done, that he put the squeeze on and survived.
Khachanov’s next game is against Nishioka. At least Karen should reach the quarterfinals, and then we’ll see. I believe in him, I like the way he plays now,” Vesnina quotes Metaratings.ru.
In the next round, Khachanov will play with the Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka, the meeting will take place on January 22.

Russian Karen Khachanov moved from 18th to 17th place in the ranking of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), a new version of which was published on the organization’s website.
The best among Russians remains Daniil Medvedev, located in 13th place, Andrei Rublev is 16th. There have been no changes in the top ten rankings: Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz is in the lead, Italian Jannik Sinner is second, and German representative Alexander Zverev is in third.
