Novak Djokovic’s loss to Veselφερε propelled Daniel Medvedev to the top of the world rankings, with the Russian becoming the first to break Big 4 dominance after 18 years.

It’s about time Novak Djokovic was ousted from the top of the world rankings and his successor wasn’t among the usual suspects.

The new No. 1 will be Daniel Medvedev from next Monday (February 28th). No matter what he does in Acapulco from now on, the Russian will climb to the top following Djokovic’s loss to Veseli.

Of course, what was happening in Australia was decisive for this development, as Nole was unable to defend his points at the Australian Open last year, which cost him the top.

The first to break the dominance of the Big 4

Admittedly, next Monday will go down in tennis history forever, as after almost twenty years there will not be the name of one of Federer, Nadal, Djokovic or Murray next to the top.

The last time this happened was in February 2004 when Andy Roddick was #1. Since then, one of the four above has always been at the top.

It should be noted that Medvedev will become the 27th athlete to top the world rankings in the Open Era.
