“Khachanov has a good chance to reach the semi-finals of the Australian Open if Korda does not recover after a five-set” – Chesnokov
Russian Karen Khachanov will have more chances to reach the semi-finals of the Australian Open if the American Sebastian Korda does not have time to recover from his last five-set match, Honored Master of Sports of Russia Andrey Chesnokov believes.
Khachanov defeated Japanese Yoshito Nishioka in the fourth round. Korda at the stage of the third round beat Daniil Medvedev. In the match of the 1/8 finals, he defeated the Pole Hubert Hurkach in five sets.
– Karen has chances to reach the semi-finals. Let’s start with the fact that he played very well against Nishioka. He passed this heavyweight, pulled out a victory, as they say, in a good way, he suffered. In the first two sets, the level of the opponent was not for Khachanov – 6:0, 6:0. After the first set there was a question – can a player play tennis? And suddenly he clings, and the game begins. It’s good that everything ended like that in three sets.
As for Korda, he is such a player – when he is fresh, he plays very well. When he is tired, unforced errors begin, he begins to crumble. I saw it in the match against Djokovic. The first two sets he played amazingly, and then he was physically tired. If he is fresh against Khachanov, then it will be hard for Khachanov. If he does not recover after that five-set match, then Khachanov has a good chance to go to the semi-finals, Chesnokov told Vprognoze.ru.
Korda and Khachanov are the first pair of quarter-finalists of the current Australian Open. The 26-year-old Russian has never gone beyond the third round at an Australian Grand Slam before.
