Maria Sakkari ended her performance at the Australian Open in the third round after Lin Zhu defeated the Greek 2-1.

The two athletes put up a great fight with the world No. 85 and continued their impressive performances. On the other hand, Maria Sakkari (No.6) paid for her many effortless errors (52 for 42 winners).

The match: The match started nervously for both tennis players with many errors and consecutive breaks. The first to emerge victorious was Zhou, who held serve first to take a 3-1 lead.

Then the two gymnasts held their serve until it was 5:3. At this point, it took Sakkari three straight games to take the lead for the first time.

Zou held her serve and so it went into the tie break. There, the Chinese took an impressive 4-1 lead and then managed to stay cool and close the set 7-6 (3).

The second set began in the same way as the first, but with the roles reversed. Again we had three consecutive breaks with Sakkari but this time emerged victorious and led 3-1.

The rest of the set belonged entirely to the 27-year-old Greek. She may have made a lot of unforced errors (13 for the same number of winners), but she was more efficient and managed to easily go 6-1 to 1-1.

In the third set, Zou broke and then held to take a 2-0 lead. Sakkari responded and in the sixth game she equalized the set to go 4-3.

However, the Chinese made a new break in the ninth game and then finished the match 6: 4.
