Australian Open: The ’16’ pairings and what you need to know about the women’s draw

The Australian Open is in the final sprint and Sportish presents you with the data on the women’s table and what you need to know about what is happening.

Starting on Sunday morning (January 22nd) the final sprint of the Australian Open begins. This means we have a clear picture of what we expect on the women’s board.

Of the 16 gymnasts we continue, six are in the top ten in the world rankings, while four more fell victim to upsets (including Sakkari).

Due to the way the pairings are placed at the top of the table, we expect big pairings in the quarterfinals, with the pairing of Sviontek and Goff and Pegula and Azarenka being very likely.

In the end, things are a bit clearer as Garcia and Champalenka are expected to reach the semifinals.

Round of 16 schedule

Sunday 22.01

  • Sviontek – Rybakina
  • Ostapenko-Goff
  • Pegula-Krejcikova
  • Azarenka-Zou

Monday 23.01

  • Pliskova-Zhang
  • Linete-Garcia
  • Sabalenka-Bencic
  • Vekic-Fruhvirtova

The prize money record and the points

Aside from the grand trophy, all athletes who continue in the Australian Open fight claim the cash prizes offered by the organizers and of course the points.

Let’s start with the prize money. In total, the organizers distributed around 49 million euros to the athletes who will compete in the first Grand Slam of the year.

This is also the largest amount they’ve ever given, with a year-over-year increase of just over 3%. Of course, the two winners in the men’s and women’s singles get the most money, bringing around 1.8 million euros to their account.

In the back of the participants’ minds will of course also be the points that they can get. Among the women, No. 1 is not threatened because the difference between Sviontek and the others is large.

However, we expect major lineup changes in the top 10. We remind you that the winner will receive 2,000 points.

PHOTOGRAPH. Serena Williams may return to tennis at 44

According to media reports, Serena Williams is considering a sensational return to professional tennis after a four-year break.

The 23-time Grand Slam champion retired in 2022, avoiding the word “retirement” and saying only that he was “moving away” from the sport.

Her last match took place at the 2022 US Open, where she lost to Ajla Tomljanovic. Williams’ re-entry into the anti-doping pool last December fueled rumors of a comeback. Although Serena later denied her return, The Telegraph’s sources claim that the tennis community is not buying it and believes Serena can still compete at WTA level.

Williams will be eligible to return to Roland Garros this summer, including mixed doubles, with possible options at Wimbledon or the US Open. Her older sister Venus continues to perform at the age of 45, increasing interest in Serena’s possible return.

Former champion Jim Courier is confident that Williams will definitely be back on the field if injuries are not a problem; The only question is the format and tournament.
