Olympic champion Elena Vesnina commented on the victory of Russian tennis player Andrey Rublev over Dane Holger Rune in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open.
The game ended with the victory of the Russian with a score of 6:3, 3:6, 6:3, 4:6, 7:6 (11:9). At the decisive tie-break, Rublev managed to win back from the score 0:5, and also won back a double match point in the fifth set.
– Such a victory gives self-confidence, because it was won in spite of everything. Rublev managed his nerves, which is very commendable. It can be said that Rublev is now doing something impossible. After this victory, Andrey can do something more ambitious, – Sport24 quotes Vesnina.
In the next round, Rublev will play the winner of the match Alex De Minaur (Australia) – Novak Djokovic (Serbia).
– Novak still needs to get past De Minaura, who plays good tennis, especially since he is at home, the fans will support him. But I still think that Novak should win. So far, Andriy, most likely, is waiting for Djokovic to face him in the quarterfinals. Now the main thing for Rublev is to recover after the match with Rune, because 4 hours on the court is a serious load. If the next game is with Djokovic, then you need to play at 100%, – said Vesnina.
