Chesnokov called the match between Rublev and Rune at the Australian Open a horror film
1989 Roland Garros semi-finalist Andrei Chesnokov spoke about the victory of Russian tennis player Andrei Rublev over Denmark’s Holger Rune in the 1/8 finals of the Australian Open.
The game ended with the victory of the Russian with a score of 6:3, 3:6, 6:3, 4:6, 7:6 (11:9). At the decisive tie-break, Rublev managed to win back from the score 0:5, and also won back a double match point in the fifth set. Tennis players spent 3 hours and 37 minutes on the court.
– The result was a film – not a romance, but a horror film. Comfortably enough, Rublev won the first set. Then there was an early break, but Rublev could still win the second set. In the fourth set, there is a pitch for the match, and two double faults occur. Quite a lot of gifts for this level of the match, where two players from the top 10 of the world play. In the fifth set, break points immediately went. Rublev miraculously bounced back from 0:40, but Rune still broke — 5:2. It would seem that everything – take the match. But Rublev returned. On a tie-break 0:5 is such an advantage. Rune gave his match, his game. Fifth set Rune was obliged to win. I just don’t know how he lost it.
There was some kind of ball at the match ball. Just some unreal snot zasandalil. I can not explain it. This happens once a year, or even once in a lifetime. If a rally had gone to the match ball, then Rune would have done everything to win this ball. There were a huge number of unforced errors in this match,” Chesnokov told the “Championship”.
