Kafelnikov: “Rublev’s match seemed hopeless, but Andrei is a real man!”
Russian tennis player Andrei Rublev showed character in a match with Dane Holger Rune and reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open, said the former world number one Yevgeny Kafelnikov.
The game ended with the victory of the Russian with a score of 6:3, 3:6, 6:3, 4:6, 7:6 (11:9). At the decisive tie-break, Rublev managed to win back from the score 0:5, and also won back a double match point in the fifth set. Tennis players spent 3 hours and 37 minutes on the court. In the ¼ finals of the Australian Open, the Russian will play with Serb Novak Djokovic.
– I’m very happy for Andrey! He showed character and made it to the quarterfinals of AO. The meeting seemed hopeless, and so five games went on. But Rublev did not give up, he fought to the end, and fortune rewarded him with good luck. A real man!
Djokovic will probably be next. And if Andrey plays with him, then there is always a chance to win. Let’s see what will happen next. We believe! Kafelnikov told Sport24.
