For Khachanov, the match with Korda at the Australian Open will be very difficult, Chesnokov believes
The American tennis player Sebastian Korda plays very well, so the Russian Karen Khachanov will have a hard time with him in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open, according to the 1989 Roland Garros semi-finalist Andrey Chesnokov.
The match will take place on January 24th. Earlier, Khachanov defeated Japanese Yoshito Nishioka in the 1/8 finals and reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open for the first time in his career.
– In the match with Korda, a lot will depend on whether he recovers after a five-set duel. It will be a very difficult match for Khachanov, because Korda plays very well. And if he is in a tired state – the feeling that he gave everything in the match with Khurkach, then Khachanov will be quite comfortable. When Korda is tired, he starts making many unforced mistakes.
Could Medvedev’s defeat by Korda be an additional motivation for Khachanov? I think the biggest incentive for Khachanov is to get to the semi-finals of the Australian Open. He has already been in the semi-finals once in another tournament. If Korda passes, there will be a good victory for Khachanov, – Chesnokov told the Championship.

Four Ukrainian tennis players were included in the doubles entry list Australian Open 2025.
Ukrainian women will play in the doubles tournament on the courts of Melbourne: Marta Kostyuk, Dayana Yastremskaya, Lyudmila Kichenok and Nadezhda Kichenok. Unfortunately, there will be no all-Ukrainian tandem in Australia.
Kostyuk will perform alongside Elena-Gabriela Ruse at the Aus Open, and Yastremskaya will play alongside Alisha Parks.
Lyudmila and Nadezhda will not play together at AO-2026, although they will start the season with the same duet in the Brisbane 500 meters. It was announced that Lyudmila will be with Katie Volynets, and Nadezhda will be with Makoto Ninomiya.
Australian Open 2026 will take place from January 12 to February 1. Elina Svitolina, Marta Kostyuk, Dayana Yastremskaya and Alexandra Oleynikova will represent Ukraine in singles. Yulia Starodubtseva, Angelina Kalinina, Daria Snigur and Vitaly Sachko will perform in the eliminations.

Russian Karen Khachanov moved from 18th to 17th place in the ranking of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), a new version of which was published on the organization’s website.
The best among Russians remains Daniil Medvedev, located in 13th place, Andrei Rublev is 16th. There have been no changes in the top ten rankings: Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz is in the lead, Italian Jannik Sinner is second, and German representative Alexander Zverev is in third.
