“No one wants to play with Djokovic, but tennis is tennis” – Tarpishchev on Rublev’s chances

President of the Russian Tennis Federation Shamil Tarpishchev believes that Andrei Rublev’s match with Serb Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open will be difficult.

Earlier on Monday, Rublev defeated Dane Holger Rune in the fourth round with a score of 6:3, 3:6, 6:3, 4:6, 7:6 (11:9). Tennis players spent 3 hours 37 minutes on the court, the Russian lost 2:5 in the decisive set and 0:5 in the tie-break. Djokovic confidently defeated Australian Alex De Minor in his match – 6:2, 6:1, 6:2.

– Our tennis player deservedly won, but the hassle was very big. Andrey really should have won Rune easier, not in the way the game was going. Because there are differences in the game, there is a load and there is a nervous system. Of course, whether or not to get into such a situation depended on Rublev: he could end up with a victory earlier. The advantages include the fact that Andrei managed to return to the game from such a catastrophic score. Rublev’s moral and volitional qualities were at their best at the right time, and he played beyond praise.

It is clear that no one wants to play with Djokovic in their hearts, because he can do everything. Novak is strong tactically and is now on the move. He effortlessly reached the quarterfinals. Naturally, the match will be difficult. But tennis is tennis. It’s clear what needs to be done. The only question is whether we can do it. We will see! Tarpischev told Sport24.

Djokovic is a 21-time Grand Slam winner.
