Tarpishchev called three factors that helped Khachanov in the match with Korda in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open
President of the Russian Tennis Federation (FTR) Shamil Tarpishchev explained how the Russian Karen Khachanov beat the American Sebastian Korda in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open.
Korda refused to fight in the third set with the score 7:6 (6:3), 6:3, 3:0 in favor of the Russian. Thus, the 26-year-old native of Moscow made it to the semi-finals of the Grand Slam tournament for the second time in a row, the previous one was the US Open‑2022.
– I can’t say that Khachanov crushed Korda. The first set was double-edged – Karen served great and played long. Just this very length and exchange of blows brought success. Korda simply couldn’t play positionally because of Khachanov’s tight play. It is important to note that Karen maintained the pace that the American suggested – another key to success. And, I repeat, he served very well. The length of the game, the pitch and the pace are three factors that determined the outcome of the game, Tarpishchev said to the Championship.
Khachanov will face the winner of the match between Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas and Czech Jiri Legechka in the Australian Open semi-finals.

Four Ukrainian tennis players were included in the doubles entry list Australian Open 2025.
Ukrainian women will play in the doubles tournament on the courts of Melbourne: Marta Kostyuk, Dayana Yastremskaya, Lyudmila Kichenok and Nadezhda Kichenok. Unfortunately, there will be no all-Ukrainian tandem in Australia.
Kostyuk will perform alongside Elena-Gabriela Ruse at the Aus Open, and Yastremskaya will play alongside Alisha Parks.
Lyudmila and Nadezhda will not play together at AO-2026, although they will start the season with the same duet in the Brisbane 500 meters. It was announced that Lyudmila will be with Katie Volynets, and Nadezhda will be with Makoto Ninomiya.
Australian Open 2026 will take place from January 12 to February 1. Elina Svitolina, Marta Kostyuk, Dayana Yastremskaya and Alexandra Oleynikova will represent Ukraine in singles. Yulia Starodubtseva, Angelina Kalinina, Daria Snigur and Vitaly Sachko will perform in the eliminations.

Russian Karen Khachanov moved from 18th to 17th place in the ranking of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), a new version of which was published on the organization’s website.
The best among Russians remains Daniil Medvedev, located in 13th place, Andrei Rublev is 16th. There have been no changes in the top ten rankings: Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz is in the lead, Italian Jannik Sinner is second, and German representative Alexander Zverev is in third.
