President of the Russian Tennis Federation Shamil Tarpishchev believes that the results of Karen Khachanov before this season were affected by the pandemic.
In the previous four years, Khachanov had not won a title or beaten a top 10 ATP player.
– There was no recession. It’s a matter of work. I will not talk about its shortcomings. This is a question of both the coach and professional work. Of course, the pandemic has taken its toll. Because he is a wonderful family man, loves to be at home. I had to sit more at home with my family than to wander around the world and train. He had a child. There are many factors of all kinds, – Tarpishchev told KP Sport.
In the quarterfinals of the Australian Open, Khachanov met with the American Sebastian Korda, who refused to fight in the third set with the score 7:6 (6:3), 6:3, 3:0 in favor of the Russian. Thus, the 26-year-old native of Moscow made it to the semifinals of the Grand Slam tournament for the second time in a row, the previous one was the US Open‑2022.
