Tsitsipas: ‘Yes, I can say I’m aiming for the title at the Australian Open’
Stefanos Tsitsipas, who will appear in the semifinals of the Australian Open for the fourth time in his career, expressed optimism, stressing that he can reach the final and win the title.
Stefanos Tsitsipas is in a terrible competitive and mental state as he prepares for his 4th appearance in the semi-final stage of the Australian Open.
The top Greek tennis player won 3-0 sets against Yiri Lehetska and will face Karen Khachanov on Friday (27/01) to reach the second Grand Slam final of his career after Roland Garros 2021.
The number 4 in the world rankings feels very comfortable in her game and, after qualifying for the “4” in Melbourne, does not hide her will to go all the way to the front.
“I feel great in my game. I haven’t felt this good in a long time. I would say ‘YES’, I can win the title. I said it. I’m a different player, I play differently. My mental approach is different. When I’m on the pitch, I don’t think negatively. I just go out and play my game.” said Stefanos after reaching the semifinals of the first Grand Slam of the season.
“I’m very happy when I’m on the court. I’m happy with my performance. I’m very happy with my shots. It’s that swing that makes me very hungry and has created a great desire to play tennis and to perform to bring New Goals,” he added.
After a 5-set win over Yannick Shiner in Round 4, Tsitsipas returned to straight-set wins and now has two days to rest for Friday’s big match against world No. 20 Khachanov.
Our 24-year-old champion also spoke about the important role Mark Filippoussis plays in his team, with the Greek-Australian coach giving Stefanos’ box a rest.
“The reason Mark is part of the team is the dynamism he brought. There is no friction. Everything is going well. We get along very well and understand each other. There are no misunderstandings and things that can lead to conflicts.
I’m enjoying it. He’s a nice guy who stands by my dad and can advise him, help him and help me. I hope I can help him with this experience too.” he said.
