Epic qualification to the doubles semifinals for Tsitsipa/Lopez in Acapulco
The Tsitsipa / Lopez duo caused a big upset and qualified well for the semifinals of doubles in Acapulco against Colombians Kabal / Farah.
After qualifying for the semifinals of the singles tournament in Acapulco and beating Marcos Giron in straight sets, Stefanos Tsitsipas and teammate Feliciano Lopez clinched a great win over the No. 2 pair, Tablo and Hampo, in the quarterfinals of doubles.
The Greek-Spanish duo edged the Colombians 4-6, 6-4, 12-10 after a thrilling battle that kept spectators in the central square to qualify for the “4” best of the ATP 500 tournaments where they will face off against the lucky losers, Harry Heliovara and Lloyd Glaspool.
The fall of Tsitsipas/Lopez could be described as epic after they twisted the lead with 9-5 of their opponents in the decisive tie-break and saved a total of 5 match points.
Tsitsipas ended the match with a fantastic winner, taking the first match point of opportunity after 1 hour and 54 minutes of tense battle.
