Sakkari: Almost a year with broken brakes
Over the past year, Maria Sakkari has steadily increased her performance, which is reflected in her course at most tournaments.
On Thursday afternoon (February 24th) Maria Sakkari easily beat Coco Goff and qualified for the semi-finals of the Doha tournament.
No matter what he does in the tournament from now on, the world number six has already added another note to the terrible time he’s going through.
The terrible paths he took may not have been accompanied by title conquests, but that will come sooner or later.
level has changed
The most important thing for Maria Sakkari is how she wins the games against athletes who are behind her in the world rankings.
Throughout her career, whenever she has been considered an underdog, she has excelled. Now, in the top 10, she had to learn to deal with the title of favourite.
She does this in a great way because even when she has her back against the wall in front of female athletes who are below her, she still manages to find a way to win.
A great example is her match with Pegoula, where she was a break down in both sets, but she caused the upset to take the win by 2-0 sets.
Tenth semi-final in 414 days
Now Sakkari will claim another qualification for the semifinals in about a year. As you will see, we measured from early 2021 to now.
In those 414 days, the 26-year-old Greek has competed in 23 tournaments, reaching the semi-finals of at least 10!
Again he reached the quarterfinals, twice he qualified for the final.
