After the semi-final match of the Australian Open tennis championship between Serbian Novak Djokovic and Russian Andrey Rublev, fans waved Russian flags, reports the publication inews.
The match took place on Wednesday and ended with the victory of Djokovic with a score of 6:1, 6:2, 6:4. After the game, at the exit of the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, fans waved Russian flags, which depicted the coat of arms of the Russian Federation and President Vladimir Putin. Fans also chanted: “Russia – Serbia.”
Earlier, the Australian Tennis Federation (Tennis Australia) banned the display of the flags of Russia and Belarus at the Australian Open, noting that “they will continue to work with players and fans to provide the best conditions for the tournament.”
In connection with the appearance of Russian flags after the Djokovic-Rublev match, the police are interrogating four people.
The Australian Open will end on January 29th.
