DOHA, Qatar – Poland’s Iga Swiatek, No. 7, advanced to the final of the WTA tournament in Doha on Friday, where they will face Estonia Anett Kontaveit (No. 4).
Swiatek beat Greece’s 6th Maria Sakkari 6-4, 6-3 in the semifinals, an opponent they had lost in their first three meetings last year.
The 20-year-old Polish, winner of Roland Garros in 2020, will try to win the fourth title of her career in the circuit on Saturday. The 8th player in the world will face Estonia Annette Kontaveit, winner earlier than Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko (No. 15), 6-1, 6-4.
The No. 4 and 7th player in the world, Kontaveit had already beaten Ostapenko two weeks ago in the semifinals of the St. Petersburg tournament, which it then won. It was the sixth title of his career.
Ostapenko sees her nine-game winning streak end after Sunday’s title in Dubai and this week’s victories in Doha against Garbine Muguruza and Barbora Krejcikova, both former Grand Slam winners.
