Kafelnikov – about the women’s final of the Australian Open: “I wanted Rybakina to win, but it was initially clear that Sobolenko was the favorite”
Two-time Grand Slam champion in singles, former world number one Yevgeny Kafelnikov shared his emotions from the Australian Open final between Belarusian tennis player Arina Sobolenko and Kazakh representative Elena Rybakina.
Sobolenko won with a score of 4:6, 6:3, 6:4. The match lasted 2 hours and 28 minutes. For 24-year-old Sobolenko, this is the first Grand Slam singles title in her career.
– To be honest, I had a desire for Rybakina to win. But initially it was clear that Sobolenko was the favorite. She led head-to-head 3–0. The match turned out to be equal, there was a struggle in every game. Every point was pretty hard to win. I would like to say that the final was definitely a success! It was an exciting spectacle with a bright ending – everything is as it should be in the final of such a tournament! – quotes the words of Kafelnikov “Championship”.
